Adult Swim's Top New Show of This Year Earns a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
