American Military Executes Deadly Attack in Eastern Pacific, Leading to Four Fatalities
As stated by a senior defense spokesperson, the US armed forces carried out a fatal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
“A US joint task force carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”
Background and Recent Strikes
The statement follows a day after a declaration regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, pledging to increase the military presence.
Just on the previous day, the Pentagon said it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Defends Tactics Amidst Pressure
The government has faced growing pressure to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare.
Although the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to suggest a broader geopolitical aim. In a recent interview, the chief of staff said the president “wants to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”
This indicates the military campaign may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's sitting leadership.
