Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the party enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Seekers and Planners groups.

Viewers can look forward to learning which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
