The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
